Forestry Communications
I started as the Forestry Communications Specialist January 1, 2012. We now have a quality outdoor poster for the “Don’t Move Firewood” campaign. If you have a campground or area where campfires are allowed, contact me for a poster. We need to stop firewood coming into the Ozarks that can carry devestating pests. I am sending to print two brochures on forestry and the sensitive nature of the Ozarks environment. I am organizing a Professional Timber Harvester class and a Forestry Ownership Succession Workshop. I have contacted all of the schools and city governments in four target counties regarding free trees available under the Forest ReLeaf of Missouri program. Other activities include promotion of the USFS Discover the Forest program; the MDC Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) program; the National Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program; MDC programs such as Call Before You Cut, Grow Native!, Missouri Master Naturalist, the USDA EQIP program, and others. I will be working with our partners to further participation in Piney river clean-ups and Missouri Stream Team activities as well as creating a Piney River Watershed Committee. I can be contacted at 417-967-0676, 417-260-3064, or petermaki@totorcd.ord. Peter Maki, Forestry Communication Specialist
